Position Job Title:     Accounting Intern

Position Summary
The New Home CO. Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on experience in the dynamic field of New Home Sales and Accounting. The Accounting Intern will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complete project accounting process, with a particular focus on construction job costing.

During this internship, the Accounting Intern will participate in key accounting tasks, including reconciliation, assisting with quarter-end closing processes, supporting carious financial procedures related to new home construction projects, while advancing their skills in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft office applications. This role provides valuable exposure to both the accounting and construction aspects of the business, allowing the intern to gain insight on how financial tracking and project accounting integrate within the homebuilding industry. 

Job Duties:      
  • General & Administrative Duties:
    • Assist in the preparation of home-closing entries for revenue recognition.
    • Prepare and develop an understanding of the cost of sales (COGS) methodology.
    • Support the processing of vendor invoices.
    • Perform account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial records.
    • Help maintain and organize financial documents and files.
  • Shadowing/Meeting Attendance:
    • Participate in month/quarter-end closing procedures that will provide valuable insights into account reconciliation, adjusting journal entries, and financial reporting deadlines.
    • Shadow the Accounting Supervisor during their daily tasks to gain real-world insights in various areas of accounting and the financial close process.
  • Special Projects:
    • The Final Internship Project is an opportunity for the intern to showcase the skills, knowledge, and insights they have gained throughout the program. This project will be presented to supervisors and team members, serving as both a reflection of the intern's journey and a valuable overview of their contributions to the organization.

Position Qualifications
Education
  •   Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized and follows tasks through to completion.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Able to manage time wisely and work within deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible, able to anticipate, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must be computer literate, with intermediate experience in Windows, Word, and Excel
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a small team.

Physical Requirements:
