Job Title: Vice President, Engineering
FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt
Position Summary: The Vice President, Engineering (VPE) will oversee the strategic planning and management of New Home Co.'s technology engineering initiatives, including software development, data management, and technology innovation. This role involves collaborating with various departments to ensure engineering projects support the organization's goals and enhance operational efficiency. The VPE will lead a team of professionals, work closely with the corporate executive leadership team, and serve as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters to deliver robust and scalable solutions for a rapidly growing business.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Technology Strategy Development:
- Collaborate with the corporate executive leadership team to develop and execute a comprehensive engineering strategy that aligns with long-term organizational objectives.
- Provide strategic direction for designing, developing, and implementing software applications and data systems.
- Innovation and Industry Awareness:
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the company's engineering practices competitive and innovative.
- Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations to enhance the company's engineering capabilities.
2. Team Leadership:- Leadership and Mentorship:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, train, and retain top engineering talent to build a high-performing team.
- Resource Management:
- Allocate resources effectively to support engineering projects and ongoing system development.
- Set clear objectives and performance metrics for the engineering team.
3. Project Management & Execution:- Project Oversight:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
- Implement best practices in software development and agile methodologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Liaise with other departments such as sales, marketing, finance, and operations to ensure alignment between engineering initiatives and broader company goals.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to support project success.
4. System Development & Integration:- Systems Implementation:
- Lead critical systems' architecture, development, and integration, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Sales, Customer Insights, Customer Service, Contact Center, Field Service), Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, Copilot Studio), Microsoft SQL Server (Database, Integration, Reporting, Analysis), Enterprise Data Warehouse & Analytics, AI, and other operational platforms.
- Ensure the successful implementation of CRM systems, customer/vendor portals, and data analytics platforms to support business operations and customer lifecycle management.
- Architecture and Design:
- Oversee system architecture and design changes to meet the organization's growing needs.
- Ensure technologies are used efficiently, securely, and profitably.
5. Process Improvement & Compliance:- Process Optimization:
- Identify opportunities to streamline business processes through engineering solutions and system enhancements.
- Work with business units to understand and translate their needs into technical requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure the company's technological processes and services comply with all legal requirements, laws, and regulations, including internal and external audits and SOX compliance.
- Develop and implement policies for disaster recovery and breach incidents.
6. Financial Management:- Budget Management:
- Manage and optimize the engineering budget, making cost-effective decisions without compromising quality.
- Track, analyze, and monitor technology performance metrics to ensure optimal performance while controlling costs.
- Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure high levels of service and support.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements to benefit the company's interests.
Qualifications:- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field / comparable work experience.
- Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 8 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing and managing large-scale engineering projects.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, SQL Server, Azure, and cloud services.
- Experience in the homebuilding industry is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of software development methodologies, technologies, and best practices.
- Proficient in cloud services, databases, and various programming languages.
- Strong understanding of data management, analytics, and integration.
- Leadership Skills:
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Base Salary: The expected base salary range for this position is between $210,000 to $230,000 per year, depending on experience and skillset. Base Salary is paid bi-weekly, every other Friday. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on divisional and individual performance.
