Position Job Title: People Manager Business Partner

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Location: Irvine CA or other New Home Co. Divisional Office Location

 Position Summary   

This People Manager Business Partner at New Home Co. is a key member of a cohesive and high functioning People Team. This specific role has responsibility for partnering with both homebuilding divisions and the company’s newly established mortgage operations. 

The most qualified candidate for this position works independently with their client group on all areas of the team member lifecycle including recruiting, onboarding, compensation, engagement, talent development, and employee relations while maintaining a high level of professionalism. The People Manager reports to the Head of People and is a critical partner to various high-level leaders within the organization including division presidents and their senior team members.  This person takes a flexible approach to problem-solving while exercising emotional intelligence, business literacy and critical thinking. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, however other duties may be assigned:

Strategic Business Partnership to Assigned Divisions including Mortgage Operations

  • Provide human resources advice and leadership to the Division President and other division team members.
  • Work directly with President of Mortgage division to establish programs and processes including for performance management, compensation, internal employee communications, employee engagement programs, and employee handbook. 
  • Establish regular cadence of connection with division leaders to proactively address HR concerns and mitigate risk or escalation.
  • Travel to divisions to meet team members, learn culture, and support team member base. Interest and ability to travel up to 15%. 
  • Evaluate trends and metrics in partnership with Division Presidents and Corporate HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies that drive the company results.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Utilize HRIS, Applicant Tracking System, and other software programs to extract meaningful data to help drive human capital needs.
  • Identify training needs for business units and partner with functional leaders to address.

Recruiting & Talent Management

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition Team on recruiting efforts for open positions. 
  • Administer talent management programs including performance management, 9-Box, succession planning, and development plans.
  • Work closely with management and team members to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
  • Partner with Director, Total Rewards on team member compensation. 

Compliance & Employee Relations 

  • Consistently interpret and apply HR policy and guidance across client groups.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal and state employment law, ensure policies and procedures remain compliant with states and local jurisdictions for specified client groups, and work with both internal and external legal counsel when appropriate.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective and thorough investigations, support leaders in creating and delivering disciplinary write-ups and Performance Improvement Plans. 

Company Culture and Initiatives

  • Drive the organization’s efforts in measuring and improving engagement while assisting leaders with philosophy, tools, results, and action planning.
  • Champion inclusion and diversity efforts across the organization, particularly related to recruiting and development and support related ESG initiatives as applicable. 
  • Partner with Corporate People team on other assigned projects and initiatives. 

 

Managerial Responsibility: This position does not supervise other employees. 

Position Qualifications:  

  •  Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. 
  • At least 7 years of progressive HR experience including partnership with senior leaders to develop and implement programs and processes.
  • HR Certification a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience working in Human Resources for a Mortgage Company required. 
  • Customer focused and able to provide guidance in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Ability to discreetly and professionally manage confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others via process and project implementation.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Strong technological aptitude, and ability to learn anew systems such as Applicant Tracking System, HRIS and others.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and open to change and feedback.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
